Bridge repairs slowed by sidelined trucks

Repair work on the deck of New York’s Tappan Zee Bridge was delayed last week when many of the contractor’s trucks failed inspections.

The Journal News reports the trucks were not equipped to carry the weight of the prefabricated panels they were hauling.

Nine new trucks – with more axles – were brought in to complete the work.

The three-mile long bridge opened in 1955 and is part of the New York State Thruway system, carrying Interstate 87 across the Hudson River.
