A company that supplied glue used in the construction of Boston’s ill-fated Big Dig Tunnel project pleaded innocent earlier this week to charges of involuntary manslaughter.

The charges stem from a ceiling collapse in one of the tunnels in July 2006 that killed a woman who was riding in a car below.

According to the Boston Globe, the company, Powers Fasteners, so far is the only firm to be charged in the case.

The company was indicted by a grand jury last month on one count of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly failing to warn contractors against using a fast-drying glue to secure the ceiling bolts in the tunnels.

A trial date has been set for Sept. 9, 2008. The company would face a maximum $1,000 fine if convicted.
