Ontario could get new intermodal hub

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, could become the site of a large intermodal hub.

Nothing’s firm yet, but The Sault Star reported that a delegation of Canadian and Chinese businessmen visited the city recently to assess whether it would be a good location.

The Chinese delegation was from Shinzhen, a large seaport city in southern China that exports about $40 billion worth of goods to North America each year.

If the hub is built, container cargo would be shipped from China to Vancouver, sent by rail to Sault Ste. Marie, and then distributed to cities in Canada and the U.S.
