Holy glue, Batman, that’s one sticky GPS mess

Some law enforcement officers say they don’t like high-speed chases because they endanger innocent people, but that they hate to let suspects simply drive away.

The Kansas City Star reports that StarChase, a Virginia company, has come up with something that could give police the best of both worlds.

Dubbed the “Pursuit Management System,” the new law enforcement tool is a laser-guided launcher that is mounted on the grill of a squad car. It fires projectiles at fleeing vehicles.

The projectiles contain a magnet and a GPS beacon and are coated with an adhesive so they can adhere to “any surface” according to StarChase officials. If the devices stick, police can drop their chase and track fleeing vehicles by GPS.

The devices aren’t in use yet, but Los Angeles police are testing them.
