The southbound truck tunnel on Interstate 5 near Santa Clarita, CA, was scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. Pacific time today, Nov. 15.                     

The tunnel was closed after a fiery crash killed three people and damaged the structure on Oct. 12.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the contractor on the job is getting a nearly $3 million bonus for completing the work early. Days after the fiery crash, state officials said that the tunnel would likely remain closed for several months.

The deadly chain-reaction calamity involved dozens of trucks and claimed the lives of two truckers and one child, who reportedly was riding with his trucking father.
