Canadian trucker’s widow accepts award on his behalf

Ontario police presented a posthumous bravery award to trucker David Virgoe for his selfless and heroic act this summer, which his widow, Debbie, accepted on his behalf Thursday, Nov. 8

Virgoe died in June when witnesses say he swerved off Highway 400 and crashed his truck, rather than plow into oncoming traffic. Seconds earlier, he had temporarily lost control of his tanker after it was hit by an alleged street racer.

Three young men are charged in his death. Since the incident, police have cracked down on street racers and have impounded more than 800 vehicles.

After the award presentation, Debbie Virgoe said her husband always tried to please people and that if he could have been there to accept the award he “would have been like a kid in a candy store.”
