Big Dig cell phone ‘dead zone’ to disappear

Boston’s Big Dig underground highway system has been a dead zone for cell phone users since it opened four years ago – but that’s about to change.

According to the Boston Globe, four cell phone companies will split the $7 million cost of installing wireless antennas in the tunnels.

As for the safety considerations of talking on a cell phone while negotiating the tunnels, a turnpike authority spokesman told the Globe they’ll be closely monitoring the situation.
