Macquarie buys Chinese toll road for $537 million

Managers of a fund controlled by Australian toll road investor Macquarie Group and its parent company, Macquarie Bank, invested $537 million to control a toll road in China.

Macquarie-controlled funds are currently invested in the Indiana Toll Road, Chicago Skyway, Dulles Greenway in Virginia and South Bay Expressway in San Diego.

The Macquarie International Infrastructure Fund also now includes an 87-percent financial stake this week in the 19-mile Hua Nan Expressway in the Chinese city of Guangzou, the International Herald Tribune reported.

Macquarie investors operate other interests in China including a trade port, some finance and consulting companies and several shopping centers.
