Danish truckers block ports, bridges

In Denmark, hundreds of truckers blockaded other trucks from entering ports, tunnels and bridges on Monday, Nov. 5, to protest new fines that the European Union has imposed on truckers who violate hours-of-service rules.

According to The Associated Press, truckers are fined $20 for each percentage by which their driving time exceeds the limit. For example, a trucker who drove 10 percent over the limit would pay $200.

In European Union countries, drivers must take a 45-minute rest break after driving 4.5 hours. The maximum daily drive time is nine hours.
