Detroit, Laredo, TX, named top land ports for 2006

The U.S. Department of Transportation says the top international border crossings in terms of freight movement last year were Detroit in the north and Laredo in the south.

The DOT reports that $115 billion worth of goods crossed the border – in both directions – in Detroit.

About $78 billion in freight moved across the border in Laredo.

More than 60 percent of the total freight at the two ports was hauled by truck, according to the DOT.
