In Florida, a bill that would have outlawed the use of retread truck tires has died because of lack of support.
The bill's author, State Sen. Victor Crist, R-Tallahassee, told "Land Line Now" on XM Satellite Radio that the only purpose of the bill was to spark a discussion of truck tires shredding or blowing up on the highways.
Harvey Brodsky, manager of the Tire Retread Information Bureau, said retread tires aren't the problem, and that a more ideal solution would be to create a task force of lawmakers and voices from the tire and retread industries to come up with ideas on how to address the issue of improperly inflated tires.
