A diesel-electric hybrid Class 8 truck that Peterbilt and Eaton are developing for Wal-Mart's fleet should be on the road in two years.

According to a Peterbilt press release, during third-party testing, the hybrid power system achieved fuel savings of 5 to 7 percent compared to non-hybrid models - and that it may generate savings of one gallon of fuel per hour when idling.
