Truckers who frequently use Interstate 44 in Missouri are in for some major detouring next weekend.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, I-44 will be completely shut down at the U.S. 65 interchange at Springfield from midnight on Saturday, July 7, until 4:30 a.m. Monday, July 9.

MoDOT is urging cross-state drivers to use a detour between Springfield and Rolla that will run south of I-44, marked with “Alternate 44” signs. That route is as follows:

• Route 63 between Rolla (Mile Marker 186) and Route 60 at Cabool;
• Route 60 between Cabool and Springfield;
• James River Freeway (Route 60) through Springfield; and
• Route 360 between Springfield and I-44 (Mile Marker 69)

The closure will allow workers to demolish a bridge as part of an interchange reconstruction project.
