California emissions lawsuit ‘inevitable’

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says it appears “inevitable” that the state will sue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Two years ago, California sought an EPA waiver so that it could enact its own vehicle emissions standards – rules that would be tougher than the federal guidelines.

But the EPA still hasn’t acted on the request, and agency officials have said no date has been set for acting on it, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

If the EPA were to grant the waiver, 11 other states are set to enact the same greenhouse gas emissions standards as California, according to the Mercury News.
