Trucker jumps from burning cab to save himself

A driver reportedly saved himself from being hurt or killed by jumping from his truck’s burning cab.

According to Quad Cities Online, trucker Jimmy Nicholas of Galesburg, IL, was driving on Interstate 80 from Dubuque, IA, to Bloomington, IL, when he noticed his engine smoking at about 3 p.m. on Monday, June 18.

Nicholas – who was hauling Caterpillar parts – pulled over near I-88, jumped from the cab and dialed 9-1-1 after smelling burning rubber. The fire, however, burned quickly and destroyed Nicholas’ truck.

The blaze reportedly destroyed the truck, which Nicholas drives for Star Transport Inc. out of Morton, IL.
