Biodiesel advances in Oregon, despite price warnings

Beginning in July, all diesel fuel sold in Portland, OR, must be a blend of at least 5-percent biodiesel.

The city’s own vehicles will use a 20-percent blend, and gasoline will have to be a blend of at least 10-percent ethanol, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post reports that the cost of biofuels may end up being higher than anyone expected.

According to The Post, when you factor in tax breaks and subsidies, the biofuel industry could cost the nation $140 billion during the next 15 years – most of which is predicted to be in the form of uncollected taxes.
