Petro gives chicken-fried support to USO

Petro – which is now owned by TravelCenters of America and other investors – raised quite a bit of money for the USO before it was sold.

This year’s effort, which consisted of pledging $1 for every chicken-fried steak dinner ordered in the chain’s restaurants in May, raised nearly $49,000.

A USO spokeswoman said in a statement that the money will help boost the morale of U.S. troops around the world.

The USO, short for United Service Organizations, has been providing recreational and morale services to U.S. military personnel since before World War II.
