Feds sets fees, start dates for TWIC program
The federal government has announced the effective dates for the new TWIC program that will be implemented at the nation’s ports.
According to a press release from the Transportation Security Administration, the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program cards – often referred to as TWIC cards – will begin being issued on March 26.
And, by Sept. 25, 2008, everyone who works at – or drives in and out of – U.S. ports will be required to have one of the cards.
TSA officials also said the cards will cost approximately $137 for people who haven’t already had an extensive background check, and about $105 for those who have, such as truckers who have hazmat endorsements.
