Kansas bill proposes speed-based tolling

If one state Senator has his way, driving too fast on the Kansas Turnpike will get you more than a speeding ticket.

Sen. David Haley, D-Kansas City, has proposed a bill that, if passed, would give the Kansas Turnpike Authority the right to enforce speed-based tolls.

That means the faster you drive, the higher your toll will be.

The speed would be determined by looking at the time a vehicle entered and exited the turnpike. The amount of the tolls would be determined by the Turnpike Authority.

The bill is currently before the Senate Transportation Committee.
