Bills aim to kill Trans-Texas Corridor

A state representative has come out with guns blazing against the Trans-Texas Corridor project.

State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, has filed two bills that, if passed, would effectively kill the project.

One bill - HB1881 - would repeal the authority for the establishment and operation of the Trans-Texas Corridor, essentially removing it from the state's transportation code.

The other bill - HB1880 - would prohibit public pension funds in the state from investing in any private toll road project, thus cutting off a potential source of funding for the Trans-Texas Corridor.

According to her Web site, Kolkhorst has long been an opponent of the Trans-Texas Corridor, and has worked with the anti-corridor group Corridor Watch.

The pension bill has been referred to the House Pensions and Investments Committee, while the authority bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.
