The Ontario Trucking Association is asking the Canadian government to temporarily allow truckers to use farm-grade diesel fuel to help offset supply problems caused by a diesel fuel shortage.
The shortage was caused largely by a fire that shut down a refinery in Nanticoke, which is located west of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
According to media reports, the refinery is expected to reopen in 7 to 10 days. But in the meantime, prices have spiked by 10 to 20 percent, with some retailers refusing to accept anything but cash.
