The planning and zoning commission in Anchorage, AK, has voted against building one of the two so-called "bridges to nowhere" that would link the city with a sparsely populated area.

According to The Anchorage Daily News, the vote isn't binding, but that backers of the $600 million Knik Arm Bridge project are now looking to the private sector to come up with funding.

The Knik Arm Bridge, along with another proposed bridge from the Alaskan mainland to a tiny island, were cited last year by many in the U.S. Congress as examples of pork-barrel projects.
