New Mexico road projects – including I-25 – on hold

Add New Mexico to the growing list of states that have hit the wall when it comes to funding their highway projects.

The Associated Press reported this week that the state has halted work on 29 different road projects, including a stretch of Interstate 25 north of Albuquerque, because of a funding shortfall of nearly half a billion dollars.

State highway officials said even though a $1.6 billion statewide transportation measure was approved in 2003, construction costs have gone up so much that there’s not enough money to pay for the planned work.
