The company that supplied the epoxy used to secure ceiling bolts in Boston’s Big Dig project has been charged with involuntary manslaughter by a Massachusetts grand jury.

The Associated Press reported that Powers Fasteners Inc. of Brewster, NY, is accused of knowing that the epoxy was unsuitable for the weight it would hold – but didn’t tell the project managers.

The National Transportation Safety Board reported that Powers provided “inadequate and misleading” information about the epoxy – which the company officials knew could slowly pull away from the bolts, according to the NTSB report.

In July 2006, a woman was crushed to death when the bolts holding concrete ceiling panels in a tunnel apparently gave way and tons of concrete fell on her car.
