Toyota outsells GM domestically for first time ever

After being called the world’s biggest auto maker for more than 70 years, General Motors has lost that title to Toyota.

According to The Wall Street Journal, in the first three months of 2007, Toyota outsold GM for the first time, with more than 2.3 million vehicles sold to GM’s 2.2 million.

High gas prices have helped Toyota sell its fuel-efficient models, while sales of GM’s large trucks and SUVs have suffered.
