Opponents of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s proposed Trans-Texas Corridor say they can count on the votes to override if Perry vetoes a bill that would delay such projects.

The Texas House and Senate didn’t just support a two-year moratorium on public-private partnerships like the Corridor – they did so overwhelmingly.

In the Senate, the vote was unanimous to approve legislation to stall privatization deals. In the House, it was 137 to 2 on a similar bill.

If one of the bills ultimately becomes law, the state would use the two years to study the feasibility of privatization, including the massive Trans-Texas Corridor plan, which calls for 4,000 miles of highway and rail corridors to be financed, built and operated by private investors.
