Just days after it was revealed that New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine was not wearing a seatbelt when he was critically injured in a wreck last Thursday night, new reports say the SUV he was a passenger in was doing 91mph in a 65 mph zone just before the crash according to police.
The Associated Press reports that the state trooper who was driving the SUV was wearing a seat belt and received only minor injuries.
The governor was on his way to take part in a meeting between radio personality Don Imus and the Rutgers Women’s basketball team and was running late.
Corzine suffered multiple broken bones, including a compound fracture to his thigh.
At press time Wednesday, a governor’s spokesman said hospital officials would be announcing “positive developments” about his recovery.
