Chicago trucking company owner, associates sentenced

A Chicago-area trucking company owner has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for his role in scamming a shipping company out of more than $4.5 million.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, 52-year-old Frank Butera pleaded guilty to billing the Zim America Israeli shipping company for work that was never done.

Two associates who were part of the scheme – Frank Gabrielle and Marianne Fabiano – were sentenced to shorter terms.

Fabiano is a member of the Roti family, which operated at least 17 trucking companies involved in the city’s Hired Truck scandal.
