7-Eleven drops Citgo amid Chavez 'devil' controversy

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is dropping Citgo as its fuel supplier, according to media reports.

The pioneering chain has used fuel from the Venezuela-backed company for 20 years.

Initial reports that said the decision was partly due to statements made by Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, in which he called U.S. President George W. Bush “the devil.”

However, a later statement from the company said that while its affiliation with Citgo had become uncomfortable, the decision to disassociate from Citgo was made months before the current controversy started.
