World's Largest Truck Convoy convenes Saturday in most states

Saturday, Sept. 16, is convoy day for thousands of truckers in the U.S. and Canada, a day when participants in the World’s Largest Truck Convoy raise money for the year-round activities of Special Olympic athletes.

Last year’s convoys raised more than $400,000 for the cause, and organizers are hoping to beat that this year.

Some states – including Florida – will hold their convoys later, but Saturday’s event is the big day in terms of the number of states and provinces participating.

Last weekend, truckers in Ontario set an example that will be hard to beat. They amassed 101 trucks for the convoy from the Paris Fairgrounds to Putnam and back again.

In the process, they raised an estimated $65,000 for the Special Olympics.
