FMCSA extends Werner's paperless log system

Truckload carrier Werner Enterprises has received federal approval to continue using its paperless log system.

The Omaha, NE-based company has GPS and computer equipment on many of its nearly 9,000 tractors that store hours of service and other information.

Werner has been using the high-tech paperless log system since 1998, when it took part in a pilot program.

Originally, Werner drivers were required to back up the paperless system with regular log books, but that requirement has since been dropped.
