Chertoff says container scanning on the rise

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday that 80 percent of all the containers coming into the U.S. by water or land are now being scanned for radioactivity.

And, according to a government press release, by next year, close to 100 percent of incoming containers will be scanned.

Chertoff called the increased scanning "a significant layer of protection against a weapon of mass destruction."
