New signs planned for Illinois highways

Truckers in Illinois will soon be looking at brighter, easier-to-read overhead highway signs.

An Illinois Department of Transportation press release said that during the next 10 years, the state will replace thousands of old signs that require lighting with new, highly reflective versions that feature more readable lettering.

The state expects to save more than $600,000 a year on electricity once all the old illuminated signs are replaced.
