Fears that 2007 will be a bad year for selling new trucks is leading to more industry layoffs.

According to The Associated Press, Paccar will eliminate shifts at its Peterbilt plant near Nashville, TN, and its Kenworth operation in Renton, WA.

Paccar isn't saying how many workers will be laid off, but The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville reported that more than half of the 1,200 employees at the Peterbilt plant will be laid off.
