Pilot fined for CB sales

Without admitting any wrong-doing, Pilot Travel Centers will pay the Federal Communications Commission $90,000 in a case involving radio sales.

The FCC charged that Pilot was selling radio transmitting equipment that was marketed as “amateur radios,” but that could easily be easily modified into citizens band radios.

The federal agency requires certification of all CB equipment and FCC officials said Pilot didn’t get that required clearance.

The FCC originally proposed a $125,000 fine.

Pilot says it’s $90,000 payment is a “voluntary contribution” as opposed to payment of a fine.
