EPA issues temporary fuel waiver for Illinois

The Environmental Protection Agency gave the OK on Tuesday, July 25, to temporarily lift restrictions on gasoline in three counties in Illinois to ease supply disruptions caused by recent severe weather.

The temporary waiver applies only to gasoline.

According to an EPA news release, the counties of St. Clair, Madison and Monroe will be able to use gasoline supplies that do not meet state volatility standards until Aug. 4.

Recent storms in the area caused power outages to the ConocoPhillips Wood River refinery in Roxana, IL, which in turn caused supply disruptions to the surrounding counties.

Gasoline volatility standards are typically applied during summer months to help control vehicle emissions, according to the EPA.
