Beginning as early as Wednesday night, July 26, motorists should expect a major change in Alexandria, VA, as the ramps from Route 1 South to I-95/Capital Beltway are switched back to their original orientation as part of the ongoing construction on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project.
According to a press release from the project coordinators, the following changes should be noted:
In order to implement the changes, it will be necessary to shut down two right lanes on southbound Route 1 on Wednesday night from about 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The ramp/lane switch and new ramp opening are expected to be in full effect by Thursday morning, July 27.
Roadway message signs are posted along southbound Route 1 to alert motorists in advance of the new traffic pattern. In addition, there will be on-site police presence during the initial phase of this traffic switch to assist motorists as needed.
Motorists should expect continued construction in this immediate area as final details are completed on this new traffic configuration in the coming weeks.
