The Department of Homeland Security has authorized $4.8 million in funding for the Highway Watch program.
According to a Homeland Security news release, the money will go to the American Trucking Association, which runs the program.
The money will be used for participant identification and recruitment, maintaining a full-time Highway Watch call center, and operating and maintaining the Information Sharing and Analysis Center.
The money is part of nearly $400 million in grants recently announced by Homeland Security to help secure the nation’s critical infrastructure, including rail, ports and city transit systems.
The grants also included $168 million for port security programs.
