The price of diesel jumped 2 cents in the week ending July 10, showing a slight increase through the long July 4holiday weekend.

The national average hit $2.918 per gallon, its highest price in the last month, according to the Energy Information Agency.

One of only two regions to report a price drop was California, where the average slipped a fraction of a penny to $3.119. That still remains the highest average in the nation.

The rest of the West Coast rose slightly to $3.060 per gallon.

The other area that saw a slight decline was New England, which fell slightly to $2.947. The Central and Lower Atlantic regions both saw increases of more than a penny to $2.963 and $2.849 per gallon, respectively.

The East Coast as a whole jumped 1.3 cents to $2.887 per gallon.

The Midwest saw the biggest increase, jumping 3.2 cents to $2.919 per gallon. The Gulf Coast also posted a significant increase, jumping more than 2 cents to $2.866 per gallon.

The Rocky Mountain region rose less than a penny to $2.966 per gallon, remaining under the $3 mark for the third week in a row.
