Today was U.S. transportation secretary Norman Mineta’s last day on the job.

He resigned recently, saying he wants to pursue other “challenges.”

In one of his last speeches as secretary, Mineta called for foreign investment in America’s highways and other infrastructure.

In remarks to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, Mineta said the nation will lose its competitive edge if we “make a habit of turning our noses up at investors in seaports, airports and highways just because they are headquartered outside the United States.”

According to Washington Post, no successor has been named. Deputy Secretary Maria Cino will take over the department until a new secretary is confirmed by the Senate.
