FBI, police investigate stolen fuel trucks

The FBI and the Atlanta Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into two fuel tankers that were stolen from an Atlanta truck terminal on Tuesday, July 4.

The Associated Press reported that the trucks were recovered – with their loads intact – on Wednesday, July 5. However, the investigation remains open.

The trucks were at an Atlanta distribution business on July 4 when a security guard saw them being driven away at about 10:30 a.m. One of the drivers even waved at the security guard as he drove by.

The trucks, one containing nearly 2,100 gallons of fuel and the other containing 1,800, were found abandoned several miles away on July 5, according to The AP.

The FBI, which got involved with the investigation because of the amount of fuel that was stolen, is continuing to investigate.
