Diesel prices climb for second straight week

The national average price for diesel rose 1.7 cents for the week ending Monday, Jan. 30, according to the Energy Information Administration.

The national average of $2.489 per gallon marked the second week of increases in a row, following a slight dip in mid-January.

California saw the biggest increase, with prices jumping 5.9 cents to $2.733 per gallon. The rest of the West Coast, by contrast, was nearly 10 cents lower at $2.640 per gallon. Even that, however, was a 3.2-cent increase from the previous week.

The lowest prices, meanwhile, were found in the Midwest, where prices rose less than a penny to $2.431 per gallon. The Gulf Coast wasn’t too much more at $2.455 per gallon.

The Rocky Mountain region saw a 3.9-cent increase – the second highest in the country – to $2.474 per gallon.

Prices in the Lower Atlantic region rose slightly to $2.481 per gallon. The Central Atlantic was significantly higher at $2.618 per gallon. The New England region posted the only decrease for the week, falling less than a penny to $2.661 per gallon.

The East Coast as a whole posted an average of $2.530 per gallon for the week.
