The average price for diesel fell 2.6 cents for the week
ending January 16, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The national average dropped to $2.449 per gallon for the
week, down from $2.485 per gallon from the previous week. That’s still
49.5-cents higher than prices for the same week in 2005.
California
reported the only regional increase, rising less than a penny to $2.603 per
gallon. The rest of the West Coast posted an average of $2.565 per gallon, a
slight drop from the week before.
California
did not, however, have the highest prices. That dubious distinction went to
New England
where, in spite of a drop of more than a
penny, prices still came in at $2.663 per gallon.
The
Central Atlantic
region
was not far behind at $2.605 per gallon. The
Lower
Atlantic
, meanwhile, saw the biggest drop, falling 4.9 cents to
$2.424 per gallon. Overall, the East Coast saw an average price of $2.489 per
gallon.
The lowest average price was found in the
Midwest
,
at $2.408 per gallon. Close behind were the
Rocky
Mountain
and
Gulf
Coast
regions, at $2.411 and $2.415 per gallon, respectively.
