A new report released by the Federal Highway Administration gives a state-by-state breakdown of how many truck weight violations were issued in a specific year.

According to the report – which measured data from Oct. 1, 2002, to Sept. 30, 2003 – more of the citations were given in Illinois than in any other state. The state logged 171,584 violations, of which approximately 146,000 were for unbalanced loads.

The next-highest state, Virginia , scored a distant second with 136,120 violations.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Rhode Island reported the fewest violations with 238, followed closely by Washington , DC , with 271, and Delaware with 372.

In total, approximately 934,000 violations were recorded during the year studied.

The five states with the fewest violations, ranked from least to most, were:

4. Alaska = 587
5. Nevada = 1,007
