October 2005 was the highest-grossing month ever for trade between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners, Canada and Mexico .

The North American Free Trade Agreement spawned $42.1 billion in surface trade with Canada and $21.9 billion with Mexico during the month, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The U.S. DOT reported that trucks haul 63 percent of U.S. imports and 79 percent of exports. The U.S. DOT gets its numbers from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which announced that NAFTA has boosted surface trade by more than 90 percent since it went into effect in 1994.

September 2005 had set the previous record with $61.2 billion in NAFTA trading. Officials are waiting to see how November 2005 fared.
