Big Dig's big boss receives big bonus

Maybe he could use the money to by some sealant.

Matthew Amorello, chairman of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority has been given a $10,000 pay raise – a drop in the bucket compared to the $14.6 billion spent on the Boston’s leaky Big Dig project.

The Boston Herald reported that the raise brings Amorello’s pay to about $223,000 a year.

The board of directors approved the pay raise with only one dissenter. Mary Connaughton, an accountant, said she voted against the raise because the time period reviewed – 2004 and 2005 – predated her membership on the board and she did not have a basis for judging his performance, the Herald reported.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has criticized Amorello’s performance during that period and repeatedly called for his resignation concerning the Big Dig’s finance and leak problems.
