Toyota set to surpass General Motors in vehicle sales

After 81 years as the world's biggest car manufacturer, General Motors is on the brink of losing that title to Toyota.

According to The Associated Press, Toyota expects to sell about 9.3 million vehicles next year, while GM is expected to sell about 9.2 million.

Like Ford, GM has announced plant closings and big employee buyout programs as it struggles with declining domestic sales.
