Groups sue over shipments of VX nerve gas

Environmental and watchdog groups in four states have filed a federal lawsuit to try to stop the U.S. Army from trucking the byproduct of a deadly chemical weapon from Indiana to New Jersey.

According to the Indianapolis Star, the Army wants to ship tons of neutralized VX nerve agent from a chemical depot near Terre Haute, IN, to New Jersey - where it would be dumped into the Delaware River.

The Army says the Environmental Protection Agency has signed off on the dumping.

But the groups who filed suit challenge the EPA's assessment, as well as the Army's right to transport the material across state lines.
