Seatbelt use among truckers up in Rhode Island

Rhode Island state police say a 9-month education and enforcement program has produced big results in terms of getting truckers to wear seatbelts.

The Boston Globe reports that before the clampdown started in January, only 36 percent of truck drivers on interstates in the state were belted up.

A new survey this fall found 54 percent of truck drivers were wearing their belts on the interstates - an 18 percent increase that one state police spokesman called "phenomenal."
