ATA claims dramatic plunge in truck tonnage for November

The total tonnage of freight hauled by for-hire carriers dropped by more than 3.5 percent in November, compared to the same month in 2005.

That's according to an American Trucking Association survey of its members.

In a press release, an ATA economist said the November tonnage decline was the worst since the last recession, and that if the trend continues, it could indicate a bigger economic slowdown than most economists are predicting.
